NVIDIA’s GPU Dominance Skyrockets to 94% Market Share Amid Tariff Fears
In a stunning display of market control, NVIDIA has solidified its position as the undisputed leader in the discrete GPU sector, capturing an unprecedented 94% of the market share in the second quarter of 2025. This surge comes as the overall graphics card market experiences a significant uptick, reportedly driven by consumers rushing to purchase components before anticipated price hikes due to new trade tariffs.
This information is based on data originally reported by Tom’s Hardware, citing figures from the analyst firm Jon Peddie Research.

The Unprecedented Growth of Team Green
According to the latest report from Jon Peddie Research, NVIDIA’s market share saw a 2.1% increase from the previous quarter, pushing it to the dominant 94% figure. This growth is largely attributed to the successful rollout of its mid-range “Blackwell” series of GPUs, which have been well-received across all budget tiers.
The overall market for add-in board (AIB) GPUs saw a remarkable 27% increase in shipments compared to the first quarter, reaching 11.6 million units. This boom is unusual for the second quarter, which is typically slower. Analysts believe this surge is a direct reaction to looming trade tariffs, causing both consumers and suppliers to stock up, leading to price increases on high-end models and quick sell-outs of mid-range and entry-level cards.

Competitors in the Rearview Mirror
As NVIDIA continues its meteoric rise, its main competitors have been left struggling. AMD’s market share has dwindled to just 6%, a direct loss of the 2.1% that NVIDIA gained. This suggests a direct shift of sales from AMD to NVIDIA.
Meanwhile, Intel’s presence in the discrete GPU market has become almost negligible, with its market share falling to below 1%. While both AMD and Intel are significant players in the broader tech landscape, their current offerings in the discrete graphics card space are failing to make a dent in NVIDIA’s overwhelming lead.
The current market dynamics paint a clear picture: NVIDIA’s technological advancements and strategic product placement, coupled with external economic factors like trade tariffs, have created a perfect storm for its dominance in the GPU industry.
